Creating Stronger Storage Areas

Creating Stronger Storage Areas

After thinking about how I wanted my house to be, I realized that I was looking for a cleaner, more organized approach to home living. However, I had a lot of stuff in my space, so I started going through and getting rid of things one at a time. It was really invigorating not to have to keep putting things back in storage, but I wasn't quite sure what I needed to do in order to identify and resolve the different storage challenges I was dealing with. I started committing myself to only storing things I was particularly fond of, and it was powerful to see how something as small as storage improved my home. Check out these posts to learn more.

Top Tips For Having Your Shed Moved

Most garden sheds are built on platforms without true foundations. This means that if you're moving, you can usually pick the shed up and take it with you if desired. There are companies that will do this for you. They call the service "shed hauling." Here are some tips that will come in handy if you decide to hire such a service to haul your shed.

Check their distance limit

Hauling a shed to the next town is a very different endeavor than hauling one to the next state. Most shed hauling services will have a distance limit to keep their jobs manageable. For instance, one service may haul sheds up to 50 miles. Another may only haul them up to 20 miles. Figure out how far your shed needs to be moved. Then, call the various companies that offer shed hauling in your area, and ask about their distance limits. This may help you eliminate a few companies from your list of potentials from the get-go.

If you're having trouble finding a company that will haul your shed as far as you need to take it, you could offer to pay a company more than their advertised rate. Some are capable of hauling sheds further but will only do so for an additional fee.

Empty it out

It's possible to transport a shed with some items inside it, but this is not ideal. The items may shift during shipping. They may also bounce off the walls and become damaged. If you have items like lawnmowers, weed trimmers, or patio furniture in the shed, you'll need to remove them and transport them in a separate moving truck. Sometimes you can hire the same company to transport these items and the shed –but separately.

Make sure there's a clear path

Before you hire a company to move your shed, make sure they are able to get to the shed and transport it to the street. If the alley between your home and the next is narrower than the shed, this may not even be possible. Or, you may find that you need to remove an awning, ask a neighbor to move their car, and so forth.

If you take the time to clear a path, check the distance limit, and transport other items separately, you should have a successful shed-hauling experience. It's so nice to bring your old shed to your new dwelling instead of having to build a new one.
